Why do the plastic casings of household appliances turn yellow?
The gradual yellowing of the white plastic casings on household appliances (such as air conditioners, washing machines, water dispensers and refrigerators) is primarily the result of three combined factors:
UV Oxidation: Ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the plastic surface, triggering a photo-oxidation reaction that breaks down polymer chains and releases coloured groups.
Migration of Brominated Flame Retardants: Brominated flame retardants are added to the ABS plastic in many appliance casings to meet fire safety standards. After prolonged use, these additives migrate to the surface and, upon combining with oxygen, turn yellow or brown.
Factors related to daily use: Kitchen fumes, cleaning product residues and temperature fluctuations can also accelerate the ageing and yellowing of plastic surfaces.
Traditional remedies such as toothpaste, alcohol and bicarbonate of soda can only remove surface dust; they cannot chemically reverse the internal oxidation and discolouration of the plastic. This is why you need a professional plastic yellowing remover.
Key Product Benefits
✓ Professional chemical formula for yellowing removal at the source
This product utilises a blend of oxygen-containing oxidisers, penetrants, dispersants and other specialised yellowing-removal ingredients. Through redox reactions, it thoroughly breaks down the pigment molecules and oxides responsible for plastic yellowing. Its effectiveness far surpasses that of household remedies such as toothpaste or alcohol.
✓ Up to 99% yellowing removal rate, with visible results
According to genuine user feedback, yellow stains on plastic surfaces are completely removed after using this product, restoring the casing to its original pristine white appearance. A single bottle is sufficient to refurbish major appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, water dispensers and fridges.
✓ No disassembly required, saving time and effort
No need to dismantle appliance casings or use specialist tools; simply spray and coat as per the instructions. Safer than spray painting and more cost-effective than replacing casings.
✓ Safe and low-toxicity, colourless and odourless
This product is made from industrial-grade, eco-friendly raw materials. It has no pungent odour, is gentle on plastic substrates and non-corrosive. Simply wipe with clean water after use to resume normal operation.
🔔 Important reminder: This product is only suitable for white/light-coloured plastic items. As it contains reducing agents, please ensure you wear gloves during application to prevent skin contact. In the event of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
Suitable Applications
Air conditioner casings (wall-mounted, floor-standing) – Restores panels to a pristine white, giving them a brand-new appearance
Washing machine casings (tumble dryers, top-loading) – Restores the white body, removing stubborn yellow stains
Water dispenser/water purifier casings – Revitalises white sections
Fridge casings – Removes yellowing and signs of ageing
Computer tower/monitor casings – Essential for refurbishing vintage equipment
Plastic doors and windows / white furniture – a great helper for household cleaning
Detailed Instructions
This product requires just a simple “four-step method” to refresh the casings of your household appliances:
📦 Items required
Plastic yellowing remover × 1 bottle
Paper towels / tissues (highly absorbent)
Cling film (PE material preferred)
Rubber or PE gloves
🔧 Procedure
Step 1: Disconnect and Clean
Disconnect the appliance from the mains, wipe away dust and stains from the casing surface with a damp cloth, and leave to dry.
Step 2: Spray Evenly
Put on gloves and spray the yellowing remover evenly over the yellowed plastic surface, ensuring all areas requiring treatment are covered.
Step 3: Cover with Paper Towels and Spray Again
Lay absorbent paper towels over the sprayed area, ensuring they lie flat against the casing surface. Then spray the yellowing remover evenly over the paper towels again, ensuring they are thoroughly saturated.
Step 4: Seal and wrap
Wrap the treated area completely in cling film to prevent the active ingredients from evaporating too quickly. Leave for 5–8 hours (the reaction is faster in full sunlight); if left in a cool, shaded place, it is recommended to extend this to 24–48 hours.
Step 5: Remove the film and wipe clean
Once the sealing time is up, remove the cling film and paper towels, then wipe the surface of the casing clean with a clean, damp cloth.
💡 Tip: If the results are unsatisfactory after the first treatment (e.g. in cases of severe yellowing), repeat the above steps 2–3 times to gradually improve the effect.
⚠️ Precautions:
Always wear gloves throughout the process. This product contains reducing agents which may cause a burning sensation or localised whitening upon skin contact.
Suitable only for white or light-coloured plastic materials; do not use on dark colours or painted surfaces.
Effectiveness may be reduced in cold winter temperatures; we recommend increasing the amount of de-yellowing agent used and extending the application time.
Please work in a well-ventilated area and avoid spraying onto floors, carpets or other items that may be affected.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: How long does the effect of the de-yellowing agent last? Will the yellowing return?
The plastic de-yellowing agent works by chemically restoring the material, reversing the oxidation-induced yellowing that has already occurred. However, if the appliance remains exposed to UV light, high temperatures, cooking fumes and similar conditions over the long term, the ageing process of the plastic substrate will not cease, and yellowing may gradually reappear after several months to a year. We recommend carrying out a yellowing removal maintenance treatment once a year to maintain a pristine white appearance over the long term.
Q2: Is it harmful to the skin? What gloves should be worn?
This product contains reducing agents; contact with the skin may cause a burning sensation or localised whitening. We recommend using rubber or PE gloves (PE film gloves are included in the product packaging). Even after wiping your hands clean, we advise washing them thoroughly before touching food or your face.
Q3: Does it corrode or damage plastic surfaces? Will it cause damage if sprayed on areas not intended for treatment?
This product is specifically designed for plastic substrates and is safe and non-corrosive on common household appliance casing plastics such as ABS, PP and PVC. Please avoid spraying onto metal parts, electronic components, glass panels, or painted/sticker surfaces. If accidentally sprayed, wipe off immediately with a damp cloth.
Q4: Can it be used in winter or on rainy days?
Yes, but the reaction speed will be slower. In winter, we recommend carrying out the process on a sunny afternoon and extending the wrapping time by 2–3 days. The ideal conditions for the reaction are: direct sunlight + a temperature of 20°C or above + a well-ventilated environment.
